What We Believe

Articles of Faith of Berea Family Fellowship in Berea, KY

1. The Virgin Birth

We believe in the miraculous virgin birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, Jesus entered this world as both fully God and fully man. His divine nature affirms His authority to save, while His human nature allows Him to identify with us completely. This truth affirms the fulfillment of prophecy and God’s plan of redemption. Scripture: Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18-25; Luke 1:35

2. The Resurrection of Jesus

We believe that Jesus Christ physically died, was buried, and rose from the grave on the third day, according to the Scriptures. His resurrection is the cornerstone of our faith, guaranteeing our own future resurrection and proving His victory over sin, death, and hell. Through the resurrection, believers have hope of eternal life. Scripture: Luke 24:6-7; John 11:25; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, 20

3. The Work of the Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is active in the world today, convicting sinners, regenerating hearts, and indwelling believers. We believe in the baptism and filling of the Holy Spirit, empowering God’s people to live holy lives, walk in spiritual authority, and operate in spiritual gifts for the building up of the church. The Spirit guides us into truth, comforts us, and equips us for ministry. Scripture: John 14:16-17, 26; Acts 1:8; Acts 2:1-4; Galatians 5:22-23

4. Total Commitment to the Lord

We believe God calls us to love Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love our neighbor as ourselves. Following Christ is not partial or casual, but requires daily surrender, discipleship, and obedience. We are called to holiness, to live set apart from the world, reflecting Christ in all we do. Scripture: Deuteronomy 6:5; Luke 10:27; Romans 12:1-2; 1 Peter 1:15-16

5. Divine Healing and Deliverance

We believe God is the Great Physician who heals body, soul, and spirit. Through the atonement of Christ, healing is available, and by prayer, faith, and anointing, we believe God still performs miracles today. We also believe in deliverance from bondage and oppression through the authority of Jesus’ name. Healing and deliverance demonstrate God’s compassion and His kingdom power at work among His people. Scripture: Isaiah 53:5; James 5:14-15; Mark 16:17-18; Luke 4:18

6. The Rapture / “Catching Away” of the Church

We believe in the blessed hope of Christ’s return for His church. At the trumpet sound, the dead in Christ shall rise first, and those who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord. This event comforts believers and calls us to live faithfully and expectantly. Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18; Titus 2:13; John 14:1-3

7. The Sanctity of Marriage

We believe marriage is a sacred covenant established by God, uniting one man and one woman for life. It reflects the relationship between Christ and His church. We affirm the biblical family structure as God’s design for raising children, building households of faith, and establishing stability in society. Scripture: Genesis 2:18-24; Matthew 19:4-6; Ephesians 5:22-33

8. Christ’s Atonement – He Died for Our Sins

We believe Jesus Christ, the sinless Son of God, offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice on the cross. His death was substitutionary—He bore our sins, paid our debt, and reconciled us to God. Through His shed blood we have forgiveness, redemption, and peace with God. Scripture: Romans 5:8-9; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 9:28; 1 Peter 2:24

9. Universal Sin & the Need for Salvation

We believe that all people are born in sin and separated from God. Salvation is found in Christ alone, by grace through faith—not by works. Whoever repents, believes in their heart that Jesus rose from the dead, and confesses Him as Lord, will be saved. This salvation brings new birth and eternal life. Scripture: Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23; John 3:16; Romans 10:9-10, 13; Ephesians 2:8-9

10. Power of the Holy Spirit in the Believer’s Life

We believe that the Holy Spirit equips believers with gifts, fruits, and power for service. These gifts are given for the edification of the church and the advancement of the Gospel. Signs and wonders follow those who believe, as the Spirit confirms the message of Christ. Scripture: Acts 1:8; Mark 16:17-18; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11; Galatians 5:22-23

11. Generous Giving

We believe giving is an act of worship, rooted in gratitude and faith. God calls His people to give cheerfully, generously, and sacrificially. We give to support the work of the church, to care for the needy, and to spread the Gospel. God promises to bless those who give with a willing heart. Scripture: Malachi 3:10; 2 Corinthians 9:6-8; Luke 6:38

12. The Trinity

We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each is distinct yet fully God, equal in power, glory, and majesty. The Trinity demonstrates God’s perfect unity and love, working in harmony for our creation, redemption, and sanctification. Scripture: Matthew 28:19; John 1:1-3; 2 Corinthians 13:14

13. Repentance & Regeneration

We believe repentance is a genuine turning away from sin and turning toward God. It is more than sorrow—it is a change of heart and life. Through repentance and faith in Christ, we are born again, made new creations, and empowered to walk in righteousness by the Spirit’s work in us. Scripture: Acts 3:19; 2 Corinthians 5:17; John 3:3-7; Titus 3:5
